The Hutchins School Shooting Team

The Hutchins School Sport Shooting Team competes in Clay Target Shooting. We are associated with the Derwent Valley Field and Game Club but also compete at as many clubs in Southern Tasmania as we can. On occasions we compete against other Schools in the State and participate in a wider ongoing firearms education program.

Lilydale Invitational

Melbourne Gun Club

Captain Jack Field, Jock Parsons, Ed Bowden, Dane Friberg, Lachlan Peacock, Liam Webster and Angus McMaster and all the Dad’s with Kent Moore travelled to Melbourne Yarra Valley to compete in our second Lilydale Invitational Sport Shooting event held at the Melbourne Gun Club.

The comp consisted of Sporting Clays 5 stand compact, DTL and Skeet.  Over 20 squads equally more than 100 students competed across the events all day.  Victoria has strong shooters with many School students competing on the International scene.  Gippsland Grammar won the comp with Hutchins a close second by 7 targets.  It was a great experience and our younger boys are coming along well, we will be back next year to bring the trophy out of Victoria and down to Tassie.

 Evandale All Schools Shoot

The Hutchins Shooting team (the force) wins 6 years on the trot with another strong team at Evandale on April 30.  It was great to have Graeme Jarvis , Keith Howells from DVFG and Kjell Friberg along with us. They are outstanding supporters of the group.

A couple of highlights on the day were young Tom hitting a heap of targets, his personal best – Tom has come a long way under Graeme and Keith’s teaching; Ed in the shootout for high gun against a State representative from Grammar and winning  and Lachie our ‘Mr Consistent’ cracking a perfect score in the DTL.
